Laura De Vito: Lapio’s Fiano wine combines elegance, terroir, and precision winemaking

In the great mosaic of Italian wine, there are areas that, more than others, manage to transform a grape variety into an authentic story of identity and landscape. Lapio, in the heart of Irpinia, is one of these places. Here, Fiano di Avellino DOCG has always found one of its most profound and fascinating expressions: wines capable of combining aromatic finesse, structure, and a surprising ability to evolve over time.
This is the backdrop for the Laura De Vito Winery project, a business that in recent years has quietly but determinedly built an increasingly recognizable reputation for quality. Their work is based on a clear vision: to interpret Fiano in a way that is as faithful as possible to the Lapio area, allowing the vineyard, soil, and climate to guide the style of the wine.
The project stems from Laura De Vito and Carmine De Maria’s desire to promote their family’s wine-growing heritage and use wine to showcase one of Campania’s most renowned wine-growing areas. This decision has led the company to focus almost exclusively on Fiano, working with great care both in the vineyard and in the cellar.
Located in the province of Avellino, Lapio has historically been one of the benchmarks for Fiano di Avellino DOCG. The vineyards are generally located between 450 and 600 meters above sea level, in a climate characterized by significant temperature variations between day and night, a fundamental element for preserving the freshness, aromatic complexity, and integrity of the grapes.
The soils, mainly clayey-calcareous with tuffaceous deposits, contribute to giving the wines structure, depth, and a marked mineral character. It is no coincidence that many of Irpinia’s longest-lived and most complex Fiano wines come from these hills.
Fiano di Avellino is considered one of Italy’s great white wines, capable of evolving over the years with extraordinary elegance, gradually developing notes of honey, dried fruit, spices, and mineral nuances without losing its freshness and taste intensity.
At Laura De Vito, work in the vineyard is the starting point for the entire project. The vines are carefully tended and yields are kept low to ensure high-quality grapes with concentrated aromas.
In the cellar, the production philosophy is geared towards maximizing the potential of the grape variety, with vinification mainly in steel tanks and aging on the lees, which allows the wine to acquire complexity while maintaining its varietal identity intact.
The result is wines characterized by finesse, balance, and aromatic precision, where notes of white fruit, citrus, flowers, and delicate mineral nuances emerge, accompanied by a structure capable of sustaining interesting developments over time.
Vincenzo Mercurio, one of the most respected professionals in the contemporary Italian wine scene, is responsible for the company’s winemaking project. He is known for his rigorous technical approach and his ability to interpret the territories with sensitivity and respect for varietal identity. Over the years, his work has contributed to the qualitative growth of numerous companies in Southern Italy.
In 2025, he was named Best Italian Winemaker during the Dinner with the Stars, an award that further consolidated the value of his professional career.
The company’s project develops through different interpretations of Fiano di Avellino, each capable of expressing different nuances of the Lapio territory.
Among the main labels we find:
Arianiè – one of the winery’s most representative expressions, elegant, complex, and profound.
Elle – a refined and harmonious Fiano that encapsulates the winery’s production style.
Li Saurini – a wine with greater structure and territorial personality.
Verzare – a fine and mineral interpretation of Fiano di Lapio.
The quality of Laura De Vito’s work is also confirmed by the results obtained in the Vinoway Selection Guide.
By accessing the Vinoway Selection app, available for free download, you can consult the history of the companies featured in the guide and learn more about the quality of the wines over time.
In the Vinoway Selection 2026 edition, the winery’s wines received the following awards:
Arianiè 2023 – Fiano di Avellino DOCG → 95/100 – 5 Way Stars
Elle 2021 – Fiano di Avellino DOCG → 93/100 – 5 Way
Li Saurini 2023 – Fiano di Avellino DOCG → 93/100 5 Way
Verzare 2023 – Fiano di Avellino DOCG → 93/100 5 Way
A result that testifies to the solidity and consistent quality of the company’s work.
In a wine world increasingly focused on multiplying production, Laura De Vito has chosen a clear path: to explore and promote a great grape variety such as Fiano, expressing it through the different nuances of the Lapio territory.
A choice of identity and consistency that today makes this project one of the most interesting realities in the contemporary Irpinia landscape.
