Morgante: the Nero d’Avola that changed the story of Sicily

In the heart of southwestern Sicily, in Grotte, in the province of Agrigento, the Morgante winery is one of the companies that has contributed more than any other to redefining the image of Nero d’Avola in the national and international wine scene. A journey built with vision, rigor, and deep respect for the territory, far from fleeting fads and forced interpretations.

The company has its roots in decades of family farming tradition. For generations, the Morgante family has cultivated the land in the Agrigento hinterland, dedicating themselves to viticulture as a means of sustenance and a deep connection to the territory.

The turning point came in 1994, when Antonio Morgante decided to vinify the family’s grapes himself, giving rise to a structured wine-making project focused on quality and promoting Nero d’Avola.

The vineyards are located in the hilly area of Grotte, between 350 and 450 meters above sea level, on calcareous-clay soils and in a climate characterized by significant temperature variations. A naturally suited environment that allows for the production of healthy, balanced grapes rich in identity.

The company’s growth took a decisive turn with the start of its collaboration with winemaker Riccardo Cotarella in the 1990s. Today, Pier Paolo Chiasso and Riccardo Cotarella are responsible for winemaking, ensuring stylistic continuity and respect for the identity of the territory.

The Morgante project is now run by brothers Carmelo and Giovanni Morgante, who lead the company with continuity, expertise, and a modern vision.

Vinoway has been following it for many years, appreciating its excellent quality, recognizable style, and authenticity. A relationship built over time, based on constant observation and consistent judgment.

The wines awarded in the Vinoway Selection (available via the Vinoway Selection app, which can be downloaded for free and is translated into English):

Morgante is concrete proof that the true greatness of wine does not come from hype, but from consistency over time. From Antonio Morgante’s vision to the knowledgeable leadership of Carmelo and Giovanni, every choice reflects a precise idea of Sicily: authentic, elegant, credible.

For Vinoway, Morgante is not just an award-winning winery, but a certainty: because when style, quality, and authenticity go hand in hand, the result is not simply a great wine, but a story that lasts over time.
